The Bicentennial Inter-House Senior Wing Debate Competition 2023

The Final Rounds of the Bicentennial Inter-House Senior Wing Debate Competition 2023 was conducted in the Prep Hall on the 1st of August 2023.

As per the points and positions from the previous rounds,

the first round of debating for the evening took place between Hastings and Havelock and the Judges for the round were:

1. Mr. A. Dennis (HPW, SPS)

2. Mr. B. Gurung (English Department, SPS)

3. Mr. R. John (English Department, SPS)

Hastings was declared the winner for the round.

The final round of debating for the evening took place between Clive and Lawrence. The Judges for the round were

1. Rev. Dr. Fr. P.A. James SJ (Department of Microbiology, St. Joseph’s College, North Point)

2. Rev. Fr. C Pragassan SJ (Director, Self-finance Course and Asst. Professor, Mass Communication, St. Joseph’s College, North Point)

3. Mrs. Teresa K. Yhonjan (Senior English Teacher, Loreto Convent)

Lawrence won the round and were declared the ultimate winners of the Bicentennial SW Inter-House Debate 2023.

After a tie-breaking session among three speakers, namely, Armaan Mandal, Kupuka I Zhimomi and Yavisht Jamshedji, The *Airforce Medal for Best Public Speaker *for the year 2023 was awarded to Mr. Yavisht Jamshedji of standard 10. This is his second in-a-row win of the title.

The special guests for the evening were Rev. Dr. Fr. Donatus Kujur SJ (Principal, St. Joseph’s College, North Point) and Fr. Paul D’Souza SJ (Director, Hayden Hall)

The Debating Society would like to thank Mr. P. Lepcha (Acting Administrator), Mr. P. Lama (HJW), Mr, A. Dennis (HPW), Mr. D. Cecil (HOD, English Department), House Masters, Teachers, Judges (for all the rounds), SW/JW Boys, Estate Department, Photography Department and P.A. Department for all their help and support in successfully conducting and completing the Bicentennial SW inter-house Debate 2023.
