GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE

Good Friday is a commemoration of God’s unconditional love for humanity. On this day we remember how Jesus showed his love for his people by accepting death; death on the cross. Why was Jesus crucified? Who crucified him? Did he really deserve to die? These are questions that beg for answers. Jesus was crucified because he always stood by people who were oppressed. He spoke against injustice inflicted upon them by the rich and the powerful which included some of the great political and religious leaders. He spoke of God’s special love for the poor, the outcasts, oppressed and downtrodden, which did not go well with the people in high position and power. So they decided to get rid of him because he was exposing their sinful ways. So they created false accusations against him and eventually succeeded to nail him on the cross with the help of the Roman authority. Jesus knew the impending danger of taking the side of the poor and the downtrodden. However, as God’s love would have it, he was willing to suffer and die for the cause of bringing salvation to people because he loved them. He was willing to free them from the bondage of sin and death, even the oppressors, because he cared for them. Thus, Good Friday is basically commemoration of God’s unconditional love for humanity. Although it has the aura of sadness because of Jesus’ crucifixion and death, it is termed as Good Friday as it has freed humanity from the bondage of sin.At St. Paul’s we commemorated Good Friday with a chapel service to show reverence for Jesus Christ’s suffering for humanity. Remembering God’s great love for all the Paulites. May this day bring new meaning and change in the Paulites lives.
