The 200th Annual Speech Day was on 1st October. The day began with the Commemoration Service in the Chapel, which is an integral part of the Speech Day Service, led by Mr. Peter Lepcha, the Acting Administrator.
The Annual Speech Day Programme commenced at 10:00 am as per schedule. It was held in the Quad which was attended by parents, friends, staff and students of all three Wings.
The Chief Guest for the event was Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan, High Court, Sikkim (Old Paulite batch of 1985). He was very nostalgic about returning back to his ‘Alma Mater’ after 37 years. He was very appreciative of the good works being carried out by the staff and the achievement by the students. His inspiring speech was one of the best that have ever been delivered on the Annual Speech Day.
Students were awarded various academic achievement awards. The two staff members namely Mr Micheal Dutta and Mr. N. K. Sinha were awarded with mementos for their successful completion of 25 years of dedicated service to the school.
One of the most outstanding features of the Speech Day was a surprise visit from the granddaughter of Mr. Herbert Clarke on whose memory the Clark Geography Prize Exam has been dedicated. Mr. Hubert Clarke served the school in various capacities from 1935 – 1948. He was a Geography Teacher, Bursar and Senior Master. It was a sheer coincidence that she was in Darjeeling at the time. She was invited to give away the Clarke Geography Prize Exam Medal to the winner of the prize.
The students departed for Puja Holidays soon after the programme. Happy Puja Vacations!
