The Graduation Ceremony for the Batch of 2025

The graduation ceremony for the batch of 2025 was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of Dr. Jamyang Gyatsho, an accomplished alumnus from the batch of 1996.

Dr. Gyatsho completed his schooling at Saint Paul’s School (1986-1994) and pursued his undergraduate studies at JIPMER, Pondicherry, graduating in 2002. He specialized in Ophthalmology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, earning his MS in 2006, followed by a fellowship in Anterior Segment at Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry (2006-2009). His professional career includes serving as an Assistant Professor at Calcutta National Medical College and North Bengal Medical College (2010-2016). Currently, he practices as a Senior Consultant and Surgeon at Amitabha Eye Centre, Darjeeling, and Centre for Eye Sight, Siliguri, specializing in cataract, glaucoma, and community ophthalmology.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Gyatsho is a dedicated researcher and educator. He has completed a course in Research Methodology and Biostatistics, published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, and authored textbooks for medical students. His contributions to the field of Ophthalmology are both impactful and far-reaching.

During his address to the graduating students, Dr. Gyatsho delivered an inspiring speech that left a profound impact. He emphasized three core principles essential for success and fulfillment in life: **mental strength, perseverance, and humility**. He urged the students to cultivate mental resilience to face challenges, to persevere through difficulties with determination, and to remain humble despite their achievements. His words resonated deeply, reminding the graduates that true success is not just about professional accomplishments but also about personal growth and character.

The ceremony also featured a moving farewell speech by Vibhas Raj, the outgoing school captain. With great emotion and sincerity, Vibhas reflected on his journey, urging his juniors to “be the change” they wish to see in the world. He emphasized the importance of resilience, kindness, and leadership, leaving his peers and juniors deeply inspired. In a touching moment, he solemnly thanked his parents and the faculty for their unwavering support and guidance throughout his school years. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Gyatsho enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and music. He is married to Dr. Choden Norbu, a Senior Consultant and Plastic Surgeon, and they have two children, Rigzor and Jetsun.
