St. Paul’s School proudly inaugurated its first Middle School Environmental Festival, welcoming participating students from Grades 6 to 8 representing Loreto Convent, Mount Hermon School, St. Joseph’s School, and St. Paul’s School.
The proceedings commenced with a solemn invocation delivered by Mr. V. Gurung and the school choir. Esteemed former Geography Master, Mr. M. Dutta, graced the event as keynote speaker, delivering a compelling address on regional environmental degradation within the Darjeeling District. His insightful presentation proved profoundly illuminating for the young audience.
Following the lecture, students engaged enthusiastically in a series of non-competitive activities:
* Creative poster design
* An environmental quiz featuring intentionally mixed-school teams
* Short environmental reel production
* Thematic creative writing
Additionally, a structured social experiment was conducted to assess the students’ levels of environmental consciousness.
Post-lunch, representatives from all four schools participated in a collaborative tree-planting ceremony, embodying the event’s commitment to active stewardship. The festival culminated in vibrant cultural performances within the Prep Hall, featuring environment-themed songs and dances presented by each participating institution.
This inaugural Environment Day celebration was a resounding success. It is our earnest hope that the experience instilled in every participant a deeper appreciation for our planet’s fragility, heightened their ecological consciousness, and underscored the imperative of collective action to preserve our shared environment.
We extend profound gratitude to Mr. P. Lama (HJW) and his dedicated team for masterfully orchestrating this invaluable educational initiative for the middle school community.
